I promised a couple more photos of the magnolia seed. Now why does the plant want to hang the seeds on thread which could be cotton but its not.

Wild magnolias are spread across Asia and America they go back millions of years and there are around 250 different species (I think), many are now endangered species due to deforestation in south America, and China where they are clearing the Forest's to plant Bananas,!
Never ceases to amaze me how much we have destroyed in the last 100 years that have happily grown almost since time began.I could go on but better not on here.

I would guess a creature similar to a squirrel which would take it away and bury it somewhere. Amazing seedpods!

You are right M, I find out the seed pod is inside the red pod rather like a hawthorn berry, squirrel or whatever eats the whole thing and the seed comes out the Poo end straight in to the ground.
Isn't nature wonderful.lol

How odd. Perhaps the seed is pollinated or carried away from the tree by some animal or a bird??. Where do magnolias originate from Brian? I dont remember seeing it on a David Attenborough programme.... lol.
