Sorry Meanie, I just couldn't help myself!!!!!!
21 Nov, 2011
WOW, it's twice the size of mine and three more flower spikes than mine!
Looks really nice.
22 Nov, 2011
Thanks Alex! Hope yours will have flowers soon!
22 Nov, 2011
The plant is a bit of a tiddler compared to mine!!!
But three spikes plays my one.............

Tommymoo; Meanie:
I have dozens of flower spikes on mine, in the front yard lol! :>)
22 Nov, 2011
Delonix - really big show off!!!!!
22 Nov, 2011
It's happening again - I made the comment above, not Iciar!
22 Nov, 2011
That's really strange! I hope this doesn't happen to me.
I'm not showing off! lol! If Bird-of-Paradise plants weren't growing here by the millions (literally) then it would be showing off. :>)
23 Nov, 2011
Your all show offs i don't have one ....:o(((((
Mind you just seen ad for 7 seeds how difficult are they to grow does any 1 know ?
23 Nov, 2011
Very easy Mushy - just that mine has taken seven years from seed to first sign of a flower, which is about right.
23 Nov, 2011
Palmate,
From what I've read, yes, 4 - 7 years, to bloom, from seed...that's way too long. I would recommend buying a large full-grown plant (if available). You could come here and buy one...large ones are available at every nursery and box store...and they're very cheap! :>)
23 Nov, 2011
Not over here - I've seen them for sale in bloom at up to £50!!!
You can pick up small plants for £6 to £10, but they look about a year old at best........
23 Nov, 2011
Meanie is right!!
I bought mine, it was a small thing back then two years ago, at 5 pounds. I saw a plant in bloom, about the same size as mine with 1 flower, at 54 euros in France.
23 Nov, 2011
Oh my! That's very expensive!!! Most people here just get off-shoots from neighbors plants for free. Typically, off-shoots will bloom within a year (of planting in the ground).
23 Nov, 2011
Lucky you Delonix!
23 Nov, 2011
Ignore him Tommymoo - he's showing off again!!!!
Actually, ignore me - truth be told I'm just jealous of the climate that Delonix has over there!
Delonix - does a large Strelitzia produce off-shoots easily?
23 Nov, 2011
LOL Meanie xxxxxxxxxxx
In fact, I won't/can't ignore both of you guys; how could I :-) I'd love to see your "non-tiddler" by the way! Show us your big fish, Meanie!!
23 Nov, 2011
I'll do some photos..........
Delonix will have a bigger one though!
23 Nov, 2011
Thank you Meanie.......
I look forward to seeing them very soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Meanie:
That's funny!!!
Well, if you lived here and I knew you...I would have given you my large Strelitzia reginae in the backyard, which I dug out 6 years ago. I was going to throw it in the trash, but my friend wanted it, so she has it planted in her back yard and it's blooming like crazy now. (I know show off!! lol).
Yes, large plants produce so many off-shots, its unbelievable! I took several off my plant in the front yard a couple months ago (I cut around 50 plus leaves off, also). It's barely even noticeable, though.
Tomorrow is our Thanksgiving Day Holiday, I'll take some Strelitzia reginae photos.
24 Nov, 2011
You'll have to wait for the photos - I may have new flowers stems coming!
50 leaves off! It must be a monster!!!
24 Nov, 2011
It's the plant in my front yard. It doesn't look very large, however, it has hundreds of leaves on it, which is typical.
25 Nov, 2011
Hundreds of leaves! There he goes bragging again!!!
25 Nov, 2011
He can't help himself Tommymoo!!!!
25 Nov, 2011
Tommymoo; Meanie:
I can't help what we consider common plants and weeds (here in San Diego), you consider exotic plants! LOL! :>)
