No sadly it's not, but I'm going to rectify that very soon...
What sort of price range were they J...did you notice...I'd love a pair...but we'll see...
I agree San they are gorgeous...

I bought a standard Photinia about 3 years ago and it was on about 1.5m stem. It grew to be about 3m, and then last winter it was knocked very hard so I cut it hard back and in the spring it regrew well....and then...died! Poor thing. I've planted a honeysuckle and a Solanum under it...no idea what killed it. All I can think is I might have cut through a main root acidentally with my spade. They are gorgeous as standards...this one looks particularly lovely. Mine was £50 when I bought it, but about twice this size.

Thanks for that...I've got two choices, buy two good strong shrubs and train them myself....I can only go by my own Photinia, which hasn't been slow growing, or buy the Standards already trained...I think the Pots need to be a bit special for these shrubs too, with the changing colours...

Oh yes, my mum's brick red glazed pot comes to mind!

Thanks J....sorry if I'm late getting back here we've had a power cut, only just got the power back on...wouldn't say we had a storm, but a lot of wind and rain...all calm now...
I guessed they would be around that figure...I'll have a look in the GC...

I planted my one out in the garden (not a standard) and put a Pink Marble Photinia in the red pot, it is beautiful, hope the cold weather doesn't kill it off it is growing like crazy.

I like this standard one very much Crissue, I would go for it if I was you. Get two see if they will do you an offer (barter for them) you never know they might do you a deal at the g.c.

I've got red robin in a big pot, now i've seen this i'm going to do mine early spring, dont like gardening when its cold.

I see two RR's outside a large (computer firm?) campus near London trimmed into tall cones on standards, very nice looking.

Hi Barbara, thanks for that , I do remember your Pink marble, glad it's doing so well...:))

I might have better luck if I go to Market to barter, the GC's here that I know of don't do deals, unless it's favourable to them...we get the twice yearly 10% off voucher, based on what we've spent, during the previous period...
I don't blame you Carol, I don't like gardening in the cold either...lol...

Thanks for that Severnside, they do look nice as Standards, haven't seen them as Cones, that's a new one...:)))

Do you have any nurseries near you Crissue? I think you would get a much better deal on ready trained ones. If you are anything like me, I dont have the patience to wait for them to grow and train myself. Two would look really smart.

I don't mind training them, sometimes you can buy fairly large Photinias, ready for planting as hedging, and there's quite a lot of growth on them...We have different Nurseries around, not all near, Poppy...it's just looking to see what's available...
Thanks Paul, they are a good interest all year, I think...

I have two Photinias Red Robin in my garden. They grow very vigorously. Very nice shrubs.

22 Dec, 2011

Hi Kat, I have found that with ours too, and there's a lot of new growth coming too...

23 Dec, 2011

Looked in to buying two of these online was put off by the price though, I think they look beautiful in pots and also in the garden......an early Christmas pressie perhaps?

23 Dec, 2011

The Price is off putting DD...You can buy large Photinia, ready to plant as hedging, with plenty of growth, that can be shaped as Standards...and a quarter of the price...
