but just a thin layer I would say... Here in UK it feels like spring is just around the corner...

The same here, Mr Holmes. This was just under Carpathian Mountains, it is bit cooler here, more shades, so the only snow we had on X-mas, has remained here.
Down in my village was sunny and warm. I even observed today hundreds of wild gooses flying to the Northwest. Winter will be soon over.

The same in Poland - not much snow this year. Here I noticed some catkins bursting on the willows. And catkins on a cobnuts... will try to take some photos.

I saw the same phenomenon on birches today. Enclosed the photo now.
