Kangaroo Paw

Kangaroo Paw

Not sure what the proper botanical name for this shrub is, but it is commonly known as Kangaroo Paw & is a native plant of our neighbour Australia. Also comes in red, & a crimson colour. This one is growing across the road from me.

They are both nice Dwyllis, I like the red better. They are Bloodworts of the Haemodoraceae family...Kangaroo Paw sounds so much better.!

Hey Dwyllis the plant is called Anigozanthos manglesii it is the floral emblem of western Austrailia or as you said common name Kangaroo paw.

The Kangaroo Paw that I know is Anigozanthos, but that has sword shaped leaves and no foliage on the flower stem.

I've just sown the seeds for this..........Anigozanthos manglesii, the state flower of Western Australia

I've been on duty at the hospital for the last two days, but off today, so I will shoot across the road & get a close-up shot. You might be right M .... I have seen the red kangaroo paw & I don't think it had any leaves up the stem! So maybe this isn't what I thought it was after all. The flower is a very similar shape to the red kangaroo paw I have seen, so it will be interesting to see if any of you recognize what it is.

I think this plant could be Leonotis leonurus. It's widely grown here in San Diego, also.
