That must be it Wylie :-), there are bits of this one all over England and now in Portugal too.

Mine has the same name and comes from Denmark. It says it will bloom in May.

They're usually at their peak mid June till end of August here Katarina depending whether they're early, mid or late bloomers, depends on your climate, Wylie's lucky with his mild weather, I'm jealous :-))

There is no reason to be envious of my weather. The grass continues to grow and is impossible to cut because it is so wet. I am digging over my new beds once a month when it is dry enough. Urtiegas (nettles) are now growing very large, and stray seeds of grasses are coming up (I either pull now when it's easy or wait until spring when they have large root systems). It is also when cabbages, collards and kale need to grow to avoid cabbage butterflies. I think I work harder now than in the summer. :)

I never thought of that Wylie, yes at least in winter we get a break from the weeding,I actually get time to do things like decorating etc in the house :-), in spring and summer there's no chance.

The milder weather does have its up side - I have 4 plants that I started from seed last year that have scapes. The down side - I have 285 new plants so far, and to get enough room for more, I have to start planting them early March, so I need to dig the dirt one more time and put in a slow-release fertilizer.

When do you fertilize lilies? I know you have tropical climate, it maybe different time in central Europe, but still wonder when. And what do you use for fertilization? My best, proven tip are - sorry - rabbit´s droppings with straw. I found it just by accident. Once during a winter I cleaned cages of my rabbits, and because waste container was full at that time, I made a small pile over old lilies in the garden. I thought, it would make nor harm in the winter, would work as a mulch. Then I took it away in the spring. To my surprise, from the soil under straw were growing many green shoots and I had had a lot of flowers for almost 3 months. Since that time I am recycling rabbit´s droppings like this each winter, lol.

Here, they shoot rabbits. No one raises them because of the wild ones - lots of wild ones. I use a fish fertilizer in a hose attachment. I have already seen the tips of the lilies coming up, so I know I need to do it soon. I will also spread Epsom salts around. It's raining today, so I might do it between showers.
What the Portuguese have plenty of is cow and chicken manure. But that is dug in during the autumn and it rots down during the winter - we are warm enough to compost in the ground during the rest season.

We have a bit of a rabbit problem here,and too large a garden to sink netting in the ground, although haven't seen so many this year, the local fox must be doing his job, hate the flippin things they always go for things that are newly planted so have to cover everything with netting till it establishes, have you noticed though Wylie they don't like daylilies so thats another thing in their favour :-))
I received my daylily seed from the BHHS last week, another 13 packets so have 25 lots to start when I come back from my hols :-))
We all seem to have our favourite fertilisers don't we, I use a seaweed one,used to buy the liquid form but having so many now I buy the dry stuff, our late labrador used to have a bit of a taste for it though and I'd often find him in the middle of the daylily bed eating it :-))), suppose there was nothing in it to harm him.

Unlike the UK, hunters are allowed to use dogs to flush out the rabbits. Since I have several cats, rabbits and mice aren't a problem :))
My new plants have gone over 300, and there are a few more to start. Some are big enough to think of planting out. But on the other end, I have several plants started last year putting up scapes. Two of the same cross have me puzzled because both parents and grandparents are dormant, but they are evergreen and have scapes now. But I read an article where an evergreen crossed with another evergreen will produce a small number of dormants, so maybe the reverse is true. Also polys are supposed to be difficult to start, but I bought 55 mixed seeds (someones cat made a mess), but I'm getting almost 100% coming up and hopefully a couple will be poly.

Oh my goodness Katarina a one rabbit garden destroyer!!!!, hope he doesn't keep on with that tunnel or he may find my garden, not keen on the rabbits but that made me laugh :-))
