Sorry Yorkshire - are they not hardy ?

apparently the roots froze in that bad winter we had, it wiped them all out from the GC up here,

Now is the time Alex! I lost one last year Paul. They aren't all fully hardy. Now, don't take my word on this, but I THINK it is Williamsii that are meant to be slightly hardier than Japonica...check that though!

Karen, after the winter we've been having I would be afraid to plant it in the garden.
I don't usually see them for sale here this early.

Stunning colour

I think mine must be the Williamsii variety,as it has been fine, although it is in a shaded position,so maybe that helped..

Thanks all - I have wrapped a blanket around it tonight to make sure :)))))))))))

Gosh Alex! You do surprise me!! The GC's here are full of them right now. There is a specialist in Forfar, about 10 miles away that I might go visiting soon :) They have lots of vars. Paul, I hope it will be fine, I suppose once the buds start to open they are even more vulnerable. Mine are still very tightly shut, lots of growing to do before it starts to flower. Even so, a really hard morning frost could knock them all off, so i'm hoping that my coastal situation will protect it, and the fact it's in a corner facing south-east and protected from early morning sun. You always have to gamble with Camellias...it usually pays off!

Beautiful!!!! I bought another one the other day, couldn't resist it :)

Mine are fairly well sheltered Karen - and no morning sun thankfully :)) about midday I think it has a little - hope the blanket keeps it warm enough :))
Thanks Scottish great stuff :)))))))))))))))))
