Erythrina lysistemon - Coral Tree (Erythrina lysistemon - Coral Tree)

Coral trees are extremely common here in San Diego, CA. This park has dozens of these trees loving the 82ºF/28ºC warm weather. Most species of Erythrina start to bloom in fall - spring. Photo taken Feb. 9, 2012.

My Crista Galli is having to take its chances outdoors, as it got too big last year!

You're lucky it's Crista gallii, it's a really hardy one. Most of the other species are very tender to cold.

I'm hoping that it's hardy!
It's being kept dry, which is half the battle!

I've read there's a mature E. crista-galli on the grounds of the of the White House in Washington D.C. It can get well below 0ºF.(-18ºC.) in Washing D.C. in some years.

Thanks! Yes, Erythrina species are so spectacular in bloom. It's virtually impossible to do these trees justice in a photo (as the flowers are so very bright).

Fingers crossed for mine then................

Yes, maybe this coming summer your E. crista-gallii will bloom. Just don't cut it back...as the latent buds are in the ends of the stems.

Meanie good luck with yours....
