"Snowcap" on Plant pot

This is how all our big pots and containers ended up last weekend after 48 hours of snow last weekend. The "tunnel" through which the cats escaped the house can be seen to the right of it. It's all thawed now, but more of the same is forecast for Monday. EURGH!

maybe a sled would come in useful - if only you could train the cats to pull it! that's some serious snow, and you said it had thawed a bit??

It's actually thawed quite a lot - four days now of temperatures up to and hovering around the 15°c during the day. We got down the mountain yesterday, and the only real difficulty was finding a parking place in town where there are enormous (7-8' high, I guess) piles of packed snow by the sides of the road where the snow ploughs have pushed it.
The wonderful thing is that, as you can almost SEE the snow melting, underneath are thousands of tiny blue speedwell flowers which burst into bloom the moment the sun hits them. It's like magic.

It's HIGH! Many years ago, one April, OH drove me to the airport to catch a flight to Bologna, and as we were driving along, I was practising with my (then) new camera by taking photos as we drove along, and you can see drifts of daffodils, (most of them dead and dying) and blossom on the trees. As we came into land, I took another photo, this time of the snow-covered airport. They had just finished clearing the runway and the 'plane stands, and once we were on the ground and had travelled a few yards on the 'bus, you couldn't see the plane we had just got off at all, the banked up snow was so high (I reckon higher than our ceilings, which are 9').

shee, I think I'd start to think about digging tunnels through the snow, rather than trying to get out on top of it! at least, until it starts to thaw and the roof comes down.
thinking about blue flowers under a thin layer of snow; there's a subject for a picture of "hope"!

Yes, magic to see the Speedwell emerge! It reminds me of the first time we took the boys skiing one April . . . the season was almost over, and as we drove down the mountain the snow was thawing before our eyes, and (I can picture it now) one field became a meadow of wild flowers as the snow melted . . . amazing sight! :)))
