Never heard of these -whats the taste like?

Thanks Chrispook....It's actually a Bonnie plant that I picked up at Lowe's. I am only 2 months old in gardening so still waiting to taste the fruits of my labor. Popeymike, I have only tasted these from the local Subway sandwich shop near me. They taste pretty good but they are pickled at the shop. I was wondering what they would taste like fresh so I'm waiting for them to turn a little orange to taste.

I have some of these growing in my garden, and the hot banana pepper too... and same here, have not tasted them... and am wondering how I will know when they are ripe!

Hi Dragonblue. I have been letting them go until they start to change color. When the pepper gets to a size and hasn't grown anymore in about 4 days I'm pretty sure it's ripe. You can eat them green. The usual size on mine is about 6 inches give or take. I like them to be orange or red in color. I have finally tasted them. I can say I prefer them pickled. They were awesome in my omlette though. Between the hot and sweet banana peppers I preferred the hot. The sweet tasted more like a bell pepper to me than I would have liked. The hot wasn't too hot since I picked it when it was on the dark orange side and used it right away. Let me know what you think of the taste when you finally pick one. The birds near me like peppers and broccoli so I find myself picking them earlier than I would like. One of the birds got away with one of my jalepeno peppers and they are always picking the leaves in my broccoli pot. I never knew they ate peppers!! LOL
