The bees had swarmed into a cluster in our old apple tree so my husband persuaded them into the skep! When the evening came, they were transferred into a proper hive.

John is the bee-keeper and he does sell his honey but just locally at the village shop and at the occasional food fair. I am not a honey fan but his honey is really nice and tastes so different from supermarket honey.

OH yes, there are some honeys that I really don't like at all, depending on what flower the bees have been feeding on. I do like heather honey, which is popular up here, and I love Manuka honey although it is very expensive of course. We have a bee keeper about 2 miles away who sells his honey but I have yet to try it.

My husband takes one hive of bees onto farmland on Dartmoor for the heather. Many people who had never tried heather honey before really like it. It is much darker in colour than 'garden' honey.
