New raised bed

New raised bed

Thinking about the water shortage in general..Made me realise how often I use the hose to keep my potted Cotinus healthy ...So I smashed his pot and built this raised bed around him :) Just bricks stacked on top of each other, Kept the Mossy ones to top it off. Mostly my own compost as well.

Like to do my bit...Don't know how I will fit the pots in that went there :/

That's going to look good even better with the Cotinus in leaf and dipping over the edge.

Compost looks very good and idea was worth of that effort.

That looks so good, Pim - it'll look even better once everything fills out and he gets his leaves. That brick wall makes the perfect backdrop. Nice to see the ophiopogon in there, too. (the first sowing of the seeds you sent never germinated, unfortunately, but the second set are alive and coming up nicely in our new little plastic greenhouse. Fingers crossed!)

Oh that's good. I have thousands of the bulblets, they may well multiply a bit more in here.

That's great . . . looks as if it's always been there. :))

Thank you Sheila, it would stand out like a sore thumb if it was all clean and tidy :) Popped a little Clem in there and pointed it at the Cotinus. I chose "Freckles" after seeing Amy's photo's.

Excellent. Btw, can you recommend a low-growing pink flower? We've just made a new (small) bed for our Prunus serrula, and it needs underplanting pronto!

right I will have a think...Lamium purpureum would echo the bark but not exactly flashy flowers.

Thanks - good idea. :) I've put my question on Questions, so hope to have a few more ideas to take to the GC tomoz.

There are a few ferns in there..I may pull the jasmine out and bung the Hebe's in. Still time to play and tinker :)

How did I miss this ? March is a busy month for our family ,one birthday after another ,plus our wed. anniversary .
You did a good job there Pp it was a brilliant idea and looks 'at home ' I love bricks with moss on them and to finish it off with them has made it look as if it's been there for years , I'm chuffed that you should decide on the Freckles Clematis ,you will be pleased with it I'm sure .. when you said your shrub was 20 years old and that you had it in a pot I had trouble visualizing a pot big enough to hold it ,it was obviously being held in check by the size of the pot . well done .. :o)
