Costus barbatus - Spiral Ginger

My ginger seeds did not germinate......Oh well.

You're not suppose to grow gingers from seeds. They grow from rhizomes or off-shoots.

Well......I saw the seeds, I liked the flower....I bought them.

I think you meant to say: I saw the seeds, I liked the bracts....I bought them. lol! :>)

Costus is not the easiest to grow outside a warm tropical or subtropical climate.

Just like you....must get the last word in. ;o)))

I have Costus barbatus in the front yard. It died back down to the roots last summer. I'm going dig it up and plant it back into a pot. I'm really hoping I can get it to grow again! :>)

The many plants in Balboa Park are very healthy and more than 8ft/2.4m tall. I'm not sure what the secret is to growing this plant...maybe I'll find out this year. :>)
