It comes in an array of colours/styles. Some stripey, some block colours and all fab climbers. I planted four around the post to my memory, and just attached a little netting around it to help them climb up. But they reached the top and covered it completely. (10ft) Played havoc with my washing line but looks great! :)

Its a easy fab show isn't it Pete! This particular group was in full sun and I believe (without checking) that they are sun loving plants. Maybe there are some varieties that are more shade tolerant but I really don't know for sure. I am lucky enough that I get sunshine all day in the garden so most of my plants, like myself, are sun lovers :)

I should say though, they are prolific seed producers, so once the flowers go, they leave copious amounts of seeds behind. So, in theory, you only need buy the seeds once, then save them from the pods left behind each year for the following years batch! Very cost effective.

If it's hot they'll do well without too much sun. The blooms last longer with less sun too.

Its definitely worth a try Stickitoffee! I have grown them in both full sun (as above) and in partial shade and they seem to do well in either setting. I live in the Northwest of the UK though and although sunny in the summer, the temperatures don't tend to get overly hot. Last year though, they were planted out in the spring, as usual, and we had the unusual spring heatwave.. and they didn't survive it. I would say plant them in a partially sunny spot depending on whereabouts you live. You could try planting them in various garden locations as 1 pkt of seeds can produce many plants.. and from that, work out where in your garden is the best place for yours to do well :)

I love these but I am having such a hard time trying to germinate them! I think I might have two little seedlings from two packs of seed!

Did you pre-soak them Karen?

Ipomea "Heavenly Blue" maybe? I always get poor germination with that one.

Yes, that was one of the packets and the second one was a mixed packet of blues. I'm going to wait until the plants come in to the GC...they've stocked them the last two years, so I'm hopeful. I want them to give me some quick cover on the new blue and yellow themed arches. I could have one more go...still time isn't there.

I'm with Meanie. The purple and pinks always do much better for me. I always soak the seeds first too and keep them warm until germination, often I put them in a little plastic bag to help keep the moisture in. I have a set struggling in the greenhouse at the moment but I think that could be because they are old seeds or possibly its just a bit too cold at the moment. I have some fresh packets on their way to me, all purples and pinks though. I shall start these off inside though on a warm windowsill.

I'm pretty sure that the link that I posted above is the correct one for the best germinating, growing and flowering variety. I just chucked all my Ipomea seeds in the bin last week otherwise............

I found the white variety "Milky Way" a good one too.

Thanks both of you. It has to be blue!! :))))) But I think I shall try again but in the conservatory instead of in the greenhouse. I used a mini propogator with a lid, so that 'should' have worked well. I think it is just too cold out there at night. Right....off to the GC...morning glory seeds, a shrub for a gap that has just been created, and never mind the rain!! :))
