Oh, what a charming chevalier! Beautiful. When I was learning English as a child, we have got textbooks from Oxford. Texts inside were about English farms and I remember that I liked most of all these heavy-set horses, which were strong, with short legs and some "veils" around hoofs. Our horses are little bit different in shape, but I like these.

lovely Horse Lulu, i used to ride a big grey that hated every one, really cantankerous some can be...

I rided horses too. I once got a stubborn mare which catapulted me from the saddle and broke right forearm. Since that time I just watch.

my grey stamped on my foot and broke two bones.... i was hopping mad :-)))

I saw him pulling a plough in a field the other week. He also has 2 female friends who were out for the day, maybe that's why he was in an unfriendly mood!!
And talking about horses.....we are still waiting for a mare to foal, she has been close for 10 days and she is keeping us awake and David can't go out for long unless he has someone watching her!!

wow shires!!

Shire horses come from the medieval warrior horses, I learned. They were crossed with Dutch heavy horses later.

This is true. I love these horses.

Now he is a seriously stocky chap, handsome as well....

My feet are hurting, just at the thought of him standing on them. Ouch!!!

Isn't he lovely though, I would have one of these in preference to a thorough bred!!! Far better behaved!

Yes, he is stunning.

He's gorgeous....... Looks like a Fresian rather than Shire..... If got a thing for heavy horses...... In particular the Suffolk Punch x

I saw him again today, apparently he's a Welsh Cobb and a stallion! There was a mare and foal in the next field, his baby...but was lying down in the long grass. Will go back and get a photo of him standing up. I seriously love this horse, so beautiful and powerful and more useful than a racehorse!
