Heuchera Caramel for Oliveoil

I just bought one of these karen...such a good colour even on a dull day.

It is Pimps, and it has been stunning all winter long! Great little plant.

I see, like it very much, will have to go to Silica AGAIN!!! lOl :o)

It has been almost as good as this all winter Mum. Definitely one to have for winter colour.

I have different vaarieties of these and they are real do gooders and seem to grow anywhere in the garden. We have a moth that lays eggs on two of the plants so I spread the caterpillars around all the plants so that they don't devistate them.

The wildlife have a tough time of it Karen so I try to help a little and not use sprays if I can help it. We have greenfly in the greenhouse (Appropriate for the colour only) LOL. and I am ladybird hunting today to try to get some inside on the plants.....wish me luck in finding some.

Oh yes, well you wouldn't find any here Linda. I hardly ever see one...it's very sad. Hope you have found some!

I have known people to kill Ladybird larvae as they think it is a terrible bug!

We have lots of ladybirds but they are all the seven spot kind really strange, they are everywhere. Not seen a different one for ages in the garden. Found lily beetle yesterday (sorry Lindak) had to squash them. They are evil little perishers.

I agree about the lily beetles Oliveoil. I have squashed some myself. Better to squash than use insecticide.

Oh thats a relief didn't want to upset you Lindak, I do not like killing things but they are an awful nuisance. Already got little holes in my lillies.

Well, I suppose the difference is that these are invaders to our country and not a part of the natural life-cycle. I haven't seen one yet, although I believe they are this far north now. :((

nature has a balance and greenfly are pests but supply the small birds with food for their young and the ants like the greenfly too for the sticky sweet substance that they produce.

Ants used to 'farm' aphids on my Guelder Rose at my old garden. It was absolutely fascinating watching them carrying the aphids around. I couldn't believe it when I first saw them and then I looked it up and discovered about the honeydew. I couldn't understand why they weren't eating the aphids but appeared to be carefully moving them around on the branches. The plant was regularly covered with blackfly! As it was close to the road, the birds weren't keen on feeding there.

Paul and I watched some Ants (we went to a Butterfly and Insect + zoo place) in the Lake District a few years back now. They had a tank with a rope attached outside the tank to another tank on the opposite side of the walkway. They were amazing - the size of the leaves they were breaking up and walking and carrying across this rope was spectacular. Very clever creatures just do not like them in my house. lol. I do not suffer too much with blackfly or greenfly (oh I should not have said that) they will come and get me now. lol.

Oh yes, that goes on at Butterfly world in Edinburgh too. I saw the same there...and held a tarantula in my hand!

Oh I could not have done that Karen, my knees would have buckled can deal with them in a glass tumbler but could not have one in my hand. Brave girl!

They are the only kind of spider I like...because they are big and furry! :)) Couldn't hold a house spider...or a garden one! :))) daft!

Well done Karen for holding the Tarantula. Spiders are alright to hold but their appearance and speed frighten some people.
