Oh yes, Tommymoo, we have a "Mr Fixit" who supplies us - and every year they get more expensive. Last year's supply cost us the best part of £1,000. That's why I've already ordered this year's!

Plus our gas cost us another £1,500 a year, and the electricity isn't far behind that. We hardly ever use the central heating - we just can't afford to! We looked into installing solar panels, but it would mean an outlay of at least €23,000, probably more these days, and we'd have to live a very long time to recoup that!

My Lord! That seems quite expensive for solar panels! Most people seem to be able to set themselves up for less than 10,000 (pounds) these days and even less for solar hot water. We also want to use solar power for something, hot water, heating or both eventually, and my OH has been researching. You can make your own solar panels if you are up for it, there's a whole section on YouTube about making your own solar panels and solar hot water heating system. But buying new solar panels and installing them yourself seems to be a lot cheaper than you have stated.

Tommymoo, my Darling, OH has what you might describe as total absence of technical know-how. Changing a lightbulb is a major challenge, and although I'm marginally better, DIY solar panels are just a non-starter!
That's what I thought, Pixi - wouldn't it make the basis of a splendid impressionistic painting? (minus the bit of blue polythene, of course). That and terracotta roof tiles and stone walls.
