The baby orioles are getting bigger...there's only two of the four left. In a couple of days they will all leave the nest. Photo taken May 20, 2012.

Thanks! The orioles make nests under the banana leaves every year. It's amazing the nest don't blow down in the wind.

It's kind of weird, because I think it's extremely difficult to set up nests on slippery banana trees. There must be loads of other places they can chose where it's much easier to make nests. Maybe they love the challenge? I bet there are reasonable reasons for that but I don't know what.

These birds left the nest today...just wanted to let you know.
I've cut many banana leaves with old nests on them. It's amazing how well they stick to the back of the banana's leaf. It's almost like they use super glue to attach their nest to the back of the leaf. Nature is sure incredible!

Great shot! No nests in my yard this year.

Thanks neighbor! I'm guessing they make nests in your banana leaves too?

Ohhh the birds left the nest.. I hope you won't suffer from empty nest syndrome!!!
Super glue! lol
You are absolutely right. Nature is something!

Yes, the baby orioles left the nest...however, they're still hanging around my back yard with the parents.
I'm not kidding when I say super glued. I tried to pull the nest off the banana leaf (after the birds left the nest, of course, in the past) and it's almost impossible.

Isn't it just amazing!?
They mix straw or something with their saliva to make the "glue" thing, I suppose.
