22.5.12 x Phylliopsis Hillieri Sprite

22.5.12 x Phylliopsis Hillieri Sprite (Phylliopsis (x) Hillieri Sprite)

Slow growing evergreen shrub. This has already had flowers and needs to have the stems cut back. There are still pink bell like flowers to open.

Haven't come across this one before, SG. I'm on an evergreen hunt this year, so this might be a possible? I assume it is fully hardy? (They really need to be!)

Yes it is. It only grows to about 8" x12" in ten years so if you are looking for something bigger it would not be a good choice.

Thanks, SG. I've found a few bigger ones, but this would be good for a smaller space.

I'm planning putting it in a sink as a replacement for Hemerocallis Stella D'Or which is just too big and threatening to the other plants.

Good idea, when you know it will not get too big for the space.

That is what I thought.

This is not in my book, Sg. I love the colour and shape of the leaves. Will you post another pic when the flowers come again?

I will do. There is a link showing a lovely photograph of it on this link http://www.mynewsdesk.com/se/pressroom/blomsterlandet-ab/image/view/phylliopsis-hillieri-sprite-99324

It is. The RHS Plant finder says it is a tentatively accepted name in the RHS Horticultural Database. They also list two online suppliers but neither seem to have it. As far as I know it was first shown at a Plant fair in the Netherlands and was in the running for a Glass Tulip for the best small shrub in 2010 or some such now I cannot find the data on the web. Found it it got third prize see http://www.floraholland.com/en/AboutFloraHolland/Press/2010%5CPages%5CFloraHollandsNewproducts.aspx

Found that link too!

There's lots there if you 'google' it...but I only had a quick look...

...I did notice that it's ericacious - not good for me, unless it's in a pot...

Its very small even after ten years it would be only 8" high and 12" wide. It should do well in a pot.
