I don't know how I managed to miss all your lovely photos!

It seems that we're gardening in the same sort of heavy soil...it's hard work...sometimes I have to use a pick-axe... :/

Love your fatsia. It's one of my favourites too and it seems to do really well for me...once it has recovered from the winter every year.

You could try a banana for that tropical look...they're much, much hardier than you think. I thought I'd lost mine this year after two weeks of minus 20° - but back it comes every time! :)

I am tempted by a banana plant, but I have decided to let the garden mature a bit to see how it looks filled out. However I am not known for being patient so I may give in sooner!
