I was feeling a little depressed today because as of this morning I am single again after spending over a year with someone who I thought was finally the right person. So I bought myself this plant, along with a liter of vodka.

Oh boy.....
sorry to hear this as well. Personally, I would focus on the garden and not the vodka. Pretty plant.

ladies, I have been moderately smashed for several hours now so I suppose I'm feeling a little better. Or quite possibly just numb. Numb is better than crying. Well OK, now I'm crying : ((((
Lil, I am finding so many BEAUTIFUL cacti and succulents in the stores now, the selection is much wider than in previous years! I've wanted some decently-sized cacti also and have been able to find them at Lowe's. I hope I can find a place for this plant once the cold weather comes....I have big problems with the dogs and cats destroying anything growing.

This is really my first true garden! 6 years now without owning a dog :( Miss them terribly, but I do enjoy planting things and finding them still in the ground 10 minutes later ;)))

I am sorry to hear your news, but it could be a blessing in disguise. I find most humans selfish and spiteful.

it was just at the point where he was making me feel worse about myself instead of better. So he had to be dumped. On Facebook. I'm sure he didn't like it. But I didn't like finding out on Facebook that he had had a birthday party for himself, and he hadn't invited me. I have not been perfect in this relationship but the fault is mostly his. good riddance.

Commiserations! It's hard when people turn out to be less than you expected. I hope you get back on your feet very soon. You certainly found yourself a lovely plant to brighten your day a little.

Good for you ! He doesn't sound the sort of person to get involved with ...

Retail therapy, Bernieh, retail therapy......it's the best sort.
Thanks, Hywel, I am much too sweet of a person much too much of the time but it's generally a good idea to avoid making me angry!

Yes I'm all for a little retail therapy, especially if it involves buying plants!

I have this plant but I wonder if it will make those yummy flowers. I also have found a ton of cacti and succulents this year. I bought a whole bunch and I will have to take them inside for the colder weather. have had cactus bloom but think the succulents make better flowers. Can you let yours stay out all year? These darn men, they still think they can do just as they please!!!

no, unfortunately - winters can be cold here, not as cold as New England obviously but still cold. We were lucky this year. I did find three (relatively) cold-hardy cacti at Lowe's last week - they can stay out until nighttime temps drop below 20F. Pretty good for a cactus! So most of the winter they could be out but I'll probably leave them in.
My problems are low light and cats. The only spots with decent light in the house are the bathroom and the kitchen and all plants have to be heavily catproofed.
