Hi Bloomer and Suzy!

Don't know very much about it, except that it's South African and is also called the "pin-cushion protea". Funny, there's a chain of South African hotels called Protea - hadn't a clue that it was a flower!

But it's hardy to -4 and grows to 1.5m! I'll post the whole thing when I've potted it up. :)

Thanks SL...another Monday market irresistable! lol! ;)

4 Jun, 2012

:-)) wish i had a market like that here....

I go every Monday, SL...and every Monday, I vow not to overspend...but, it never works! lol! ;)

Goes to minus 4, J...and, that in itself, I find quite odd...usually it's minus 5!!
Maybe it's extra sensitive?
Monsieur B. just said, "tonnel plastique! C'est suffi..!"
..so it's going by the lemon tree. :)

Love these but really struggle to grow them here even with the help of a greenhouse, i'll keep trying though, I find the larger Proteas slightly easier :o)

Oh dear, P...if you find it difficult, this one's chances with me are slim...

Maybe the fact that we do get a lot of sun, even in the winter will help?

5 Jun, 2012

that is so smart!

5 Jun, 2012

It really is, Paul!!
But it's also one of these stupid things that I really shouldn't have done! lol! ;))))

Excellent choice Karen!

Nothing wrong with a challenge.............

Hah! Thanks Meanie! :)
I've certainly got lots of challenges this winter...I was stupid again today and got a Feijoa Sellowiana...lol!

6 Jun, 2012

Imagine if the Feijoa fruits though!

6 Jun, 2012

Lol! We'll soon see...or not... :/
The label says "exotic and persistent, delicious fruits in October/November". Not the best time of year for an exotic fruit tree around here... ;)

6 Jun, 2012

Should be ok under glass though..........

6 Jun, 2012

That was my thinking, when I bought it...
Have to start investigating the right glass soon...

I can see it is now summer in your part of the world. Still cold and miserable here I'm afraid. OH has started talking about emigrating again.....

6 Jun, 2012

Would you go, Karen?

6 Jun, 2012

hmm...will pm you on that one!

6 Jun, 2012
