This is a typical large Bougainvillea which grows throughout California. Photo taken on June 19, 2012 at the San Diego Zoo.

This is a small one! Bougainvillea can grow up to 60ft/18m high or taller on palms.
Huge Bougainvillea shrubs grow along the freeways here in San Diego and many areas of California.

Yes, they're pretty spectacular. It's difficult to enjoy them, though - because many are along the freeways.

OMG will you look at the size of that? we are growing some on the windowsill.........all of 12ins tall!! a really beautiful specimen.
