The Pink flowering gum on the left is just starting to bloom. Unfortunately, the Royal Poincianas don't bloom...I think it's due to photoperiodism (there's a large night light which prevents them from blooming). Photo taken June 19, 2012.

The head horticulturist at the San Diego Zoo said these trees were planted in 1992 and have never bloomed...and they get lots of very hot, reflected sun.
There's not very many large D. regia trees as most people would like. It's just become more available and popular over the last 10 - 15 years. We need to plant many thousands more here in San Diego!
