Youngdaisyd, they come in the house for winter. They don't like a lot of rain... ;o)

Thank you Bik. ;o)

Alexandramou:

They look very healthy! They appear to be growing very quickly!

They do love heat and sun. Most of mine are blooming. My largest plumeria tree in the ground hasn't started to bloom yet...it always seems to bloom late. All the trees in my neighborhood are all blooming. Go figure! :>)

Delonix,
This was taken about a week ago. They have more new leaves!!! They are growing really fast this year.
They were under my veranda against the wall but hubby bought home more wood and had to move them forward.

Well, as you can tell -- they love sun and heat! I'm surprised they growing so well with the soil being so wet...as they typically like a drier soil.

9 Jul, 2012

Delonix,
I let the soil dry out and then I water them. Every other day usually, otherwise the leaves wilt. I will have to move them when the rains start. (that's why I had them under the veranda and against the wall)
I can't wait for flowers!!!

9 Jul, 2012

Wow, they sure dry out fast! I only water mine once or twice a week in summer...depending on how hot. Now, it's starting to get pretty darn hot!

9 Jul, 2012

It's up in the 40's here..... but I'm not complaining!

9 Jul, 2012

That's too HOT!!!! I definitely would be complaining...I'm complaining about the inside of my house being 85ºF/30ºC, now! lol!

It's been 88ºF/31ºC - 100ºF/38ºC here in inland San Diego...and it's suppose to get very humid over the next 5 - 6 days. The deserts are having temps up to 120ºF/48.9ºC. (this is why I HATE to go to the low desert, like Palms Springs in summer!).

9 Jul, 2012

I just noticed on the on the internet you've been getting some seriously dangerous heat there. I saw a heat index of 128ºF/53ºC. I haven't seen a heat index close to this here (in inland S.D.) since 2008 or 2009.

We're getting all the warnings on tv again plus a list of the areas with air-conditioning for people who need it.

We are very lucky where I live.....we get the breeze off the sea. It's when the breeze stops that it gets too much!

10 Jul, 2012

It's ironic you commented about the warnings on tv. I just saw all the heat warnings and advisories for southern California on the tv news tonight. I guess this heat wave is going to be even worse than the meteorologist originally thought. It's very warm tonight even at mid-night...that means tomorrow will hotter! The high pressure which is expanding west is from the deadly heat-wave from the mid-west and eastern states of the U.S.

You definitely need to stay in the a/c with the type of heat you've been experiencing there. It's very easy to get heat exhaustion or heatstroke (which can be deadly).

10 Jul, 2012

Sit down please.........I rarely use the a/c.
We don't have one in the house (thinking about putting in ceiling fans), the car....well it eats up gas like it's air and in the shops, only when we really need it.

Heat exhaustion.......oh yeah, we all feel drained by the end of August.

11 Jul, 2012

I think that's crazy! NO A/C!!!! How can you live with no a/c?

I haven't used my a/c yet...it is expensive to run. However, this week may be the first time I use it.

I was feeling heat exhaustion today...in my house it was 87ºF/31ºC. YUCK!!!

11 Jul, 2012

Well.....it all started a few summers ago. It was really hard getting used to the heat after sitting in the shops with the a/c on all day. One year I actually wanted to sleep in the shop with the a/c and install a/c units in the house. Now....I just carry on as usual.
Really thinking about ceiling fans though.

11 Jul, 2012

I understand the logic. However, I would require the a/c over intense heat, any day!

I'm just so glad I don't live a few more miles inland. They have an excessive heat warning for a couple more days. Yesterday Borrego Springs (far eastern San Diego County - in the low desert) recorded 119ºF/48.3ºC. That's God awful, horrible heat!!!

11 Jul, 2012

Gosh.....that's too hot!!! The a/c units must be on full time there!

12 Jul, 2012

Yes, it's dangerously hot...now the humidity is going way up out there too. The a/c is never shut off out there...the low temp rarely goes below 85ºF/29ºF in summer...many times the low temps are around 92ºF/33ºC or higher (that's our average highest temp in inland San Diego during summer).

This is incredible about Palm Springs, CA: "A low of 105.1 °F (40.6 °C), was recorded on July 13, 1985, one of the highest nighttime lows recorded on earth" Can you imagine? This is from Wikipedia.

W O W

So far we've been really lucky, night time temps drop enough to be able to get a good night sleep.

41C for tomorrow.....we probably won't get that high, the wind has picked up a little.

12 Jul, 2012

It's pretty incredible, isn't it?

41ºC is very, very hot!!! Luckily, it hasn't been this hot here where I live...but further inland it's been this hot and hotter.

That's always good when the temps are not super hot at night. The nights here are still very comfortable. I think tonight will be warm because the humidity is really high and we've been getting some light monsoon showers. The monsoonal flow is very strong today and the next couple of days. We're possibly expecting some thunderstorms.

12 Jul, 2012

It's 31C at 10:20 in the morning, in the back of the house where there is no sun yet and the breeze is coming off the sea.

Oh boy....it's going to be hot again.

There are parts of Greece that have been getting rain this past week. Towards where Bik lives.....
One day of light rain would be wonderful.....but just one day, no more.

You seem to be having a comfortable summer so far.

13 Jul, 2012

It sounds like it's going to be a very hot day!

We're having a very warm night. The monsoonal flow brings the heat, humidity from Mexico. Overall it's been a good summer so far. However, the hottest months are yet to come. Aug., Sept., Oct. and November can be very hot. November is statically the sunniest month in San Diego. Remember: we can get up to 100ºF/38ºC in November. The last time it reached 100ºF/38ºC. in downtown San Diego was back on Nov. 4, 2010. It's definitely more common for it to get this hot where I live then in downtown (where it's always cooler).

13 Jul, 2012

November...38C????

I like autumn temperatures here.....really comfortable. It's winter I don't like, anything under 18C I don't like!

15 Jul, 2012

Yes, 38ºC /100°F is not uncommon in November!

The city a few miles east of me, La Mesa, CA holds the record for the highest December temperature in the whole U.S.; it was 108°F/42.2°C on December 8, 1938. Beat that! lol! :>)
