Welcome from me too. Like this grouping - is it sheltered? I like the trees at the back too do you back on to a wood?

Thank you
The photo was taken 4 years ago, we move pots around every year due to growth and loss of plants. There is no shelter and yes I back onto woodland. All plants in background are potted, will add an up to date photo

Thank you Terratoonie, they take a lot of looking after but its been so enjoyable
Sadly when I look back I have lost some lovely plants, not just Acers, the colour of some were quite spectacular

What type of soil do you use for planting your Azers in pots Tubbyh?

I use an ericaceous soil mixed with at least 30% horticultural grit washed and graded for drainage, I always wash again until running clear before adding to soil
I usually place a polypropylene (woven plastic for drainage) sheet at bottom of pot (not always necessary), broken crocks then inch or 2 of stones dependant on size of pot, another layer of polyprop over the drainage stones and broken crocks to stop soil from washing down through stones, then the soil mix up to about 2 inches from pot rim again dependent on size, another layer of polyprop over the soil and then small decorative stones or pebbles on top of polyprop to finish, it works just fine and keeps the stones clean.

Probably one of the best counties for growing Acers but seeing so many in earthenware pots I wonder how many have winter damage.
Must take a while to water to.

Yes, quite a lot of winter damage if on their own, move closer together in winter and cover the more delicate ones. Takes about an hour to water every other day so I get to miss Emmerdale and Coronation Street :-))))))))
