a lot of herbs here are evergreen though Lori, so often no need for preserving, but softer leaved plants, basil en parsley etc might be well worth a go. never heard of freezing in olive oil though, sounds a good idea, well worth a try, especially as i have masses of basil and lovage right now. coriander wld be another good candidate.

The summer savoury is delicious in a pork tortierre.
My basil has finally reached secondary leaf stage...it's had a difficult time ....first it was cold...then it's become hot and dry... It does seem to like the heat best...and is finally large enough to take the odd leaf for cooking. Praying for rain , don't want a monsoon...just a couple of showery days. Or better yet...rainy nights and sunny days...the gardens fairly pop if we can sustain that weather pattern.

i just can not plant basil in the ground, wherever in the garden i have tried.
One night and all i have left will be bare stalks, every time! snails!! i now have them in a big pot on the terrace, only in the sun till about 11am and shade from then on, they seem to like that best, and the snails leave them alone there.

The garden is dry as tinder and the heatwave is supposed to continue over the next two days. 30 percent chance of rain on sunday/monday it's only going down to 21 degrees C. tonight. After a week of these temps the heat seems to build and even the nights become unbearably close. people are grumpy with the discomfort.
checked out the basil on my evening walkabout and it's being chewed by something. Could be slugs but I think it's earwigs. They really like the dry heat.

This looks nice ...I had some in my last garden and it survived a winter..but didn't make it to a 3rd season. I love to cook with fresh herbs the taste is different from dried... Found a pic on Pinterest...it was a method of keeping fresh herbs...by freezing them in olive oil in ice cube trays...so you break them out of the tray and store them in the freezer. When needed you just pop one into the pan...and voila! Have to make sure the pan is covered ...just image the spitting and sputtering! Today I harvested some fresh dill, chives, and italian parsley. Going to try this method to see if it really works.
