Spurred on by Annie and Shirley who both sent me Penstemons which appear to be growing.....I decided to give it a go when I saw this beautiful blue one, purporting to be hardier than most. I can never resist a true blue flower.

OOh - you and me both! Lovely colour - have never seen these before.

It's a shorter growing one than the usuals, and claims to be hardier. It's very similar to the blue one I had in the past that just wouldn't grow, but a different name, so here's hoping!

I bought a deep pink penstemon last year Karen - was guaranteed it was hardy - it's coming on great - a wee bit more sun and it will be gorgeous.
I was advised to cut the stems back to 8 inches for the winter and cut the dead stems out when new foliage appeared. I did give it a wee bit straw for luck. What's her face from Beechgrove Garden was serving me giving out the advice!!
First time I've ever brought a penstemon through winter - mind you - I would not have described our winter this year as winter!!

No, we had a fairly mild one this year, although we had more frosts than usual by quite a long way...but no snow thankfully!
