the chunk thats eaten out the leaf!! (wide alseep!)
it looks like a chunk eaten by either a cutter bee or a weavil, have you seen the same bee flying about?
I think these are in pots aren't they so ideal home for a VW, you'll thank me if it is

Hi, Kasia, did you start to grow Clematis farm?
26 Jul, 2012
Thank you Sticki:)
Thank you, thank you Stevie:) will treat them this weekend...
Not really Katarina - I am just collecting clematises that have Polish origins.
I have already got:
Warszawska Nike (Warsaw Nike)
Polish Spirit.
Available in UK are also:
General Sikorski
Westerplatte
Blekitny Aniol (Blue Angel)
Jan Pawel II (John Paul II)
(My birthday is soon so it would be nice to get one of those;-) or two, lol.

Hahaha. Good! Unfortunately Clematis is not so popular in Slovakia as I see it is in England, so we hardly have that list of Clematis sorts.
How does Clematis General Sikorski look like? Does it have moustache?
26 Jul, 2012
Hmm - I think is purplish... haven't seen one flowering - on the plant labels they are politically correct - no moustache;-)

Kasy I think it might be better to wait as the eggs come out later in the year and so treatment would be more effective then

now I am confused - wasn't July good month to treat them?

Re soil in pots, well now adults are laying their eggs and they wont hatch till later, they overwinter then in spring when it warms up they start eating the roots so just before it turns cold and when it warms up are the best times, for soil.
If you want to spray the leaves with something that'll put the adult off noshing them but they will be laying thier eggs about now down the sides of the pots
pesky critters

I think there is a new Provado Vine Weevil that gets rid of an adult form as well. Will check that. They are eating my plants alive, lol

ah keep us informed as i too have the dreaded muched segments, no where near as much as last year but ther must be one or two of the little blighters
27 Jul, 2012
what happens if you dont know if you have vine weavil ~ can you just spray with that stuff anyway?
27 Jul, 2012
If you have a patch of leaves with neat semi circles cut out of them then its eaither a cutter bee (larger segments) or a vine weavil. However the stuff is toxic to water life so dont want it near my frogs. I treated mine away sat in trays
