Mine are just beginning to burst their buds.. They look a lot darker than they are supposed to be. I hope they stay that way.

Thanks all, I just loved this window, I would have brought it home if I could. I'd love to do a house tour too of the 400 and odd year old farm house. This is only an outbuilding! Pimp old boy, I need to know all about hollyhocks (a dark craving) how do you cope with the dreaded rust? I need something which won't harm any creatures. Have you any pics of your hollyhocks?:-)

Well this year is the first time I have NOT had rust on them BA. Usually it is a case of putting up with it, you can pick the leaves off as it appears but then you end up with a bare plant. Be nice to know if someone does have a rust remedy out there.

I've read about Bordeaux mix, but not sure if it harms anything. I'm waiting for an Alcalthaea to flower which, so it says, is a rust free hollyhock, 1.2m high. I'll put a pic on when it flowers. There are a few of these Alcea crosses I believe, this is possibly Parkallee (forgotten) which should flower from June to November, being sterile, but I would really love some like those soft pink in the pic and that gorgeous dark pink one to the left of the window in blog pic :-)

Aaaaah me too Bornagain, lovely picture :-)
I grow one called Antwerp mixed thats supposed to be rust resistant, they still seem to get it in their second year though, although not as bad as some I've seen.
