Thanks Mot!
Resi: don't think they like the sharp sand... there have been one or two slugs. I pick them when I see them...I have a big Bressingham Blue that was planted near the foundation...it is swiss cheese! Have since moved it to the back of the house (near my new stumpery, pics to follow) ;-)

Thats lovely like a bouquet. I was just commenting on having a stumpery on your photo and I find we both have planted Bressingham blue!

I'm excited about it, Drc726. It is a very large leaf and hopefully in the right spot it well turn a silvery blue...fingers crossed. Something strange going on with it...the flower stock (white trumpets) is very short..it's only about an inch above the ground...tucked into the centre of the plant...
The plant in the pic above is Patriot..and it is suffering. you can see heat scald on one of it's leaves and the white on the leaf margins should be much wider and the green much darker. Will be transplanting it soon. Putting all my hostas in a bed near the stumps. More shade there, and better soil.

I would say the white flowers of my Bressingham Blue are always just in the centre of the clump and quite short - just above the leaves. Yours may be suffering from heat and might do better in a shadier position as I found the more shade it has the bluer it is with more flowers.

You are quite right...I'm hoping to see some improvement now that it's in a better spot. Was wondering if you had heard anything about how it reacts to juglone? We have a black walnut growing about 20 ft away and I have heard that there are "some" hostas who are not bothered by it...Where it's planted now is just outside the dripzone of the tree. May be moving it from the frying pan to the fire!

I dont know but hopefully it is far enough away, even from the roots?

It is a newly dug bed...soil cultivated to about 12 inches...under that..stoney gravel. The tree is downgrade about 25 ft...and I think the roots are deeper than that but here again...I may have to move it in a couple of years. Things are evolving and a better spot may be discovered at any time! checked the plant this a.m. and it's looking less troubled by slugs...and some new growth along with the blossom spike...so I'm hopeful things are all right for now.

Fingers crossed Lori

I didn't know you can get Hostas with blue flowers all of mine are white. Thankfully and maybe it is the soil or plenty of frogsbut do not seem to be plagued by slugs. I shall look out for blue Hosta.

sorry to confuse you, Mary. The blue is in the foliage. When their culture is to their liking the leaves have a bluish cast...the flowers are always white! There are some varieties which are dwarf...like Blue Cadet..and Blue Boy, which I have...but I've wanted the full sized Bressingham Blue for decades. All good things come to those who wait..and wait..and wait. lol....
