bless you, D1! I'm afraid her progeny will have to do that for her...I think she was very close to done. Sad to see but I think (I may be wrong because I haven't taken the time to look if up to confirm) I read somewhere that the ones we see in our gardens here may be second or even third generation from the ones which cluster in the trees on Baja and the Mexican coast.

Yes, the second generation fly to Mexico and the Central California coast for their roosting. There's some locations in the San Francisco Bay Area and here in Southern California.
Here's where many Manarch butterflies go in Pacific Grove.
I used to go and see them every year, when I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area.
