Thanks ladies ... Pam - apparently they are found all over England but not in Ireland and there are two broods per year for these - early June and again in mid August - must have missed them in June then! I saw another (or was it the same one?) today ... :o)

We usually get quite a range of butterflies, tortoiseshell, admirals& peacocks as well as the occasional brimstone and lots of little brown ones but this year despite having 3 or 4 buddleias we,ve sadly had very few.....probably all the rain, its warming up here again but rained on and off for the last few days and was really windy....not ideal for them. :0(

No, it's been a horrid year for the butterflies. I have seen very few in spite of growing buddleias and verbenas and all sorts of attracting plants .....sigh.

Having been in the garden for a couple of hours today, enjoying the sunshine, I can honestly say, apart from a couple of Cabbage Whites, not one butterfly has been in ... :o(

Oh, that's a shame for you Pam ... we started off dull and grey but changed to blue sky with sun ... and I saw a small Tortoiseshell on the mauve Buddleia at lunchtime ... not before time! ... :o)
