The Acer is recovering

My Acer palmatum Eddisbury was a new addition to my garden last year - a beautiful specimen standing around 5ft tall.
Very early in the year just as the new growth was showing it got a very bad attack of aphids. Things rather quickly deteriorated - stems blackened, leaves dropped and I thought that was it and even promptly deleted it from my plant list here on GOY!!
Following advice from GOY - I cut out 1 of the 3 main stems which seemed to curb it for a few weeks, but to no avail, back came yet another black stem....
I felt as if I had nothing to lose, out of the border it came, I cut of the 2 remaining tall stems, potted it up with a mixture of John Innes No3 and Ericaceous compost.
Just look at it now...lovely new red stems and putting on plenty of growth. My dilemma now is how to move the pot it now calls home. It is far too heavy and is sitting right on the corner where it will get battered by the cross winds.

Good idea HB - I'm sure there is an old skateboard of my Nephew's in the shed. A great save HB - as it was very expensive too!!

Well done. You'll be so pleased. I had a similar experience where I nearly threw something out but didn't get around to it, and it came back when I wasn't looking! So now I am not too hasty. Probably have thrown out a lot of good plants in the past :(

Yes - very pleased Teresa. A lesson learned for my this time too. I've since rescued a couple of plants which showed no signs of life after the flooding. I have a blue holly in a pot that I speak to everyday - but I think it's really a gonner!!!! lol :)

To make you pots weigh less you could replant your tree into cat litter. This will reduce the weight of the pot by 1/3 at least especially if you wait until just before watering.
