We have a species that does not arrive in Michigan unitl it gets below freezing. It is called a Junko. It has a snow white lower half (the side that is next to the snow) and a black upper half. Predators from above do not have much of a chance at spotting this little bird in the snow. I know it is spring when the Junkos leave and the Robins return.

We get then here in winter too, nice little birds & quite friendly. My daughters knew them as 'tuxedo birds' as they always look so well tailored!
