Clematis 'Little Nell'

Clematis 'Little Nell'

This one always flowers really high up in my trees, so it's hard to get a photo, but this little flower appeared at low level just for me today! It's a very pretty viticella clem.

it's a lovely clem. I have one up my pergola, only it's not planted where I thought I'd put it. So it hasn't been getting the right pruning. Now I know where it is it will get what is needed when it is needed.

that's the trouble with them 2ndhand. This one needs a really good chop!

I'm going to chop mine..did you see that the G.Blades bloomed for me this spring? That's what I thought this was when I saw the thumbnail. Had plans for a clem and rose bed this spring..but so far I'm behind on my plans!
Great pic, K. Is the flower very small?

Yes Lori, it's only about 2" across, if that. Yes, I did see your Gillian B! Brilliant that it flowered for you. I've never successfully moved any clematis that wasn't growing in a pot! They grow, but they never flower!

...oops, just realised that's a big lie. I moved 'Blue River' last year and it has flowered....I must have got every single bit of the root ball out!

Well, a nod's as good as a wink, then. Maybe I should put mine in pots and store them overwinter...?

Lori, I should leave them well alone if I were you!

I think that's sound advice, Karen. "if it isn't broken...don't fix it!" ...lol. However, I have plans. (When don't I have plans!?) I have a lovely incognito rose that I want to combine with the clems. The clems are clumped together and there are three different types stuffed in together..I would like to give them a better spot with the rose to climb on...and shade for their roots. Guess I'll just have to roll the dice!

Hmmm....I see your dilemma! New clems? ;)

No...no new clems...I have Rosemoor, Warsaw Nike and Gillian Blades ...lost the tangutica, and another gift clem...sad. So I think I'll just go for it...but next spring. Have other concerns at present so the garden will just have to coast into autumn.

...sorry Lori, I meant perhaps the solution is to buy new ones...

Hope your 'concerns' are not too overwhelming. Autumn is here in Scotland for sure As my friend just reminded me, we can always rely on it getting colder at this time of year, but never on it getting warmer in the spring! I think I prefer the assurance of the cold to the disappointment of the summer!
