Love this one, Motty - I lost 5 of the 6 new Dahlias I planted last year - got complacent and thought they would be fine in the ground - all gone to mush! ... :o(((

Oh dear Shirley....Wet weather can be a problem as well as cold....Sharp drainage is very important, isnt it?....Thanks P...It is a pretty thing...:>)

I always plant bulbs and tubers on a layer of grit or gravel as the Sussex clay is so horrible - I really do think the wet weather killed them off ... :o(

Yes, that could be it....hard to know what to do...I always lift my favs... take cuttings in Spring, keep the babies in pots for their first year and plant out the 'parent' tuber...If i loose a 'parent' tuber, then i still have the 'off spring' to grow on....:>)

That sounds like the 'Dahlia Insurance Policy' ... lol!
