Taste Testing

Taste Testing

I hear some crunching and brush fluttering, and find the baby moose standing in the garden. I know she is not alone, so I did not venture off the porch. Little thing wandered about, tasting a few select things, even a lily bud which she did not like. Momma stayed behind the house eating fireweed.

So sweet to look at but are the adults fierce ?

It was a sweet visit, little thing. The adult is very dangerous, especially with a youth like this. I barely poked my head out the door. The mother moose is called a cow too Suey, I'm guessing you had a bovine? I am a little nervous with any large animal, wandering my little garden. :-)

Is your garden fenced Greenthumb? In the picture it looks like it could be. Just wondering how she got in.

I have fencing and a gate, but they are not real, just there to keep snow machiners from driving over the garden in winter. This garden was always at risk. The moose wander freely through, they just seldom get this deep in. usually just some munched bushes on the outskirts, unless there is a clematis handy. They eat every vine clematis I put in, right after the first snow.

I think this is fantastic!! And I was worried about my plants being eaten by slugs and the odd bulb being stolen by a squirrel!! You must live in a fantastic part of the world. We worry about a few days of snow a year and everything grinds to a halt. I suppose we all. along with the animals, birds and plants learn to adapt to our environment in our own way.

Thank you. These are more visible so they don't sneak up, but you can't just go treat them or run them off either. I love all the wild things wandering through, keeps that wilderness right at the garden fringes.
