Klahanie - thankfully no deer visit my garden. I do have all the other 'pests' though :)
Karen - Grace drowned in the flooding!!!!! The part of the garden where she was planted doesn't usually flood - one rain fall too many me thinks!! I've bought this and some cheap astilbes from Morrisons to see how things go next year.

I have Cornus alba (Sibirica Variegata) . It has lovely red twigs in the winter when the leaves are gone.
I think it is very similar to yours Scottish. Unfortunately deer likes the foliage.
