Metasequoia glyptostroboides (dawn redwood)

Metasequoia glyptostroboides (dawn redwood)

I always liked this tree but never got it . It can grow 120'....so why did I plant it in that silly little fish pot you ask? Well, I will try to train it as a bonsai and if it ovegrows the pot then I will have to find a suitable spot on the property. It will turn orange before it drops the delicate, soft, lacy foliage.

It looks very atttractive, but notice your pot is wider towards the bottom which will make it very difficult to remove and trim the roots.

True Bjs. I had a tree in there before and took lots of effort to take it out. But eventually I did.
I noticed that they grow little palm trees in the clay "fish" pots in Mexico. That is where the idea came from. Maybe they just brake the pot when they overgrow it???
I let you know in couple of years. The tree is very attractive and I think the pot makes it interesting. Sort of color coordinated? Especially when it turns orange.

Is that fall color or is it a golden variety? There are varieties that stay a lot smaller like 'Little Giant' and 'Miss Grace' but they do make nice bonsai plants!

It is turning coppery orange right now. It might not be as pale green in the summer.
Thanks for your note RKwright

Mine hasn't started changing colors yet but I hope it looks as nice as that when it does. Last year it got sort of a burnt orange color and it didn't last very long.
