Oh, my God, I hope you enjoy it.
My father who is 75 has a very old dog and if Alzheimer exists in animals, I would say our old dog has all of them. Unfortunately, one feature is night walking and day dreaming. So the dog has been awake for last nights, barking monotonously, so poor father has to take him for a walk almost every night. They are walking in night in streets (crazy situation) and then the dog sleeps a little bit during the day, but father is awake, just very tired :))

Oh dear. Your poor father. Our puppy of almost 13 weeks old now, does sleep six hours straight overnight, but that means we stay up until around midnight in order to take him outdoors for a pee & then into bed, & then he starts barking to go out again anywhere between 6-6.15am. Sometimes he won't bark until 6.30 & this morning he was still asleep when my husband woke up at 6.45am, waking me up to ask if I had taken the puppy out already, as he wasn't barking. So we got up at 7am & woke the puppy up to take him outside. He seems to sleep later when it is raining, as it is today ....or mabe because it is Sunday & no early traffic on the road to disturb him. Great to have a bit more sleep & to have a bit later start to our day! I do sympathise with your father's situation. Nothing worse than a dog barking through the night. A lot of elderly people with dementia will sleep off & on all day, then stay awake all night. Perhaps the vet could suggest something, so that both your dad & his dog can sleep?

Dwylis@lol. It is sometimes worse then to have a little baby, isn´t it? The problem is, that our old dog was dying month ago and father took him to the vet. They gave him something, I do not know what, would like to know what an elixir it was, as I am doctor, too and since that time two somnambulants are seen in our street. Lol.

I just read what I wrote to you above & to my horror I realise it reads as if I might be suggesting that your father has dementia & that is why he is not sleeping well at night! My apologies, as that is not what I was trying to say at all. What I meant to say was that some people with dementia turn their days into night, & their nights into days, so maybe the dog did have dementia as that is what it appears to be doing. Lol

Dwyllis@absolutely correct. No, I didn´t understand it like that at all. Although, if my Dad have dementia, and I hope he will never have - it never happened in their family-we will be roaming night streets three persona - father, dog and me :))))))))
