So brugmansia. I just uploaded one few days ago and asked what is its name. Nice flowers, aren´t they?

Yes, I remember your photo. I made a comment. :>)
There's several species and varieties of Brugmansia. They all have wonderful flowers!

This is a very old plant, at least 20 years old. I don't think Angel's Trumpets would grow all year outside where you live....because it's too tropical. A light frost will usually kill it to the ground.

Delonix, we have few plants around that first little frost will kill to the ground but it comes back in the spring(gunnera comes to mind) we have similar weather to SF (you used to live there, right?) not really harsh winter. But very wet. I have seen Brugmansia in the GC in the "gardeninig on the edge" section and have seen it in several gardens here... but I suspect that people bring it in for winter. I would love to grow it because it is poisonous and deer is smart and will not eat it and because it is impressive and unusual. Getting it inside for the winter is out of the question in my case. Could you grow it in SF in protected spot? Lots of times it is the wetness not the cold which worries me.

Klahanie:
Yes, I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area. However, in southern Alameda County, the temps are generally 20ºF (7ºC) higher than in San Francisco during the day (in summer). It was a completely different micro-climate. Many citrus, avocados, and subtropical trees flourished, which didn't in San Francisco because of the constant cool temps, there.

The Angel's Trumpets are doing very well now. The shorter days and the last 3 days have been cooler. They love cooler weather and bloom like crazy!

Ours has enjoyed the cold, but not the frosts, so it has been cut back now and taken in until March (all being well!!)

My plants are just starting to flourish. The nights are longer and cooler and the days are from: 72 - 80ºF (22 - 27ºC), now. It's suppose to be pretty warm over the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend, which starts tomorrow (Nov. 22, 2012 -Thanksgiving Day).
