This beautiful plant is evergreen here in San Diego. It's growing in the Botanical Building (which is a giant lath-structure) in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. Photo taken Nov. 13, 2012.

It's because the leaves have velvety hairs on them. This plant is related to African violets. The leaves have the same texture like African violets leaves.
