Jade Plant (Crassula obovata)

Beautiful. Can you keep it low by pruning? Mine is planted in the front of my border....I can always move it when it gets too high.

You can tell on the trunks this one was recently pruned. This shrub is 6 1/2 ft (2m) high.

9 years ago my neighbor removed their Jade Forest of gigantic plants. They had two dumpsters full plus they continued to cut the remaining plants down for almost a year an put them in the trash. Believe-it-or-not they still have large jade plants in their front yard. I had never seen so many large jade plants in my life! :>)

Did they re grow from being cut down?
They don't last a minute outside in our climate..

No, they didn't regrow...my neighbors had them professionally removed and the dumpster was gigantic.

The problems with jade plants here is when branches break or leaves fall new plants grow. This is why they naturalize so readily.

I have a chili which is about 3 years old. It's in a pot. I've had this same chili plant species in the ground in years past and it can grow to 10ft (3m) tall.

In the UK it's berries and hazelnuts. In Turkey succulent figs on the roadside and Oz was the chilli capitol!!

I am having a bit of a battle with self seeders/growers...aquilegas everywhere, growing at the base, right up to the stems of my roses. They are awful hard to remove.

My former neighbor who gave me this chili plant had a huge plant in his yard. It looked almost like a tree. I actually got my first plant from a cutting off his tree. lol! :>)

How wonderful to live somewhere where chilli's can become trees!! I would have to invest in a heated greenhouse/conservatory but would have too big a bill!

I posted a photo of my chili pepper plant. It's small and neglected, however, still produces chili peppers.

The chili pepper plant is actually officially a shrub. Although, it does look like a tree when it's very large.

It reminds of a Christmas tree with the green, red, purple and black peppers. I'll have to find the photos I posted on GoY a few years back. :>)

Yes, large jade plants are pretty impressive, especially when they're flowering.

They are used in Japanese Gardens also. Especially all over San Francisco..besides Japan.
