You have it much warmer than here. Is it usual to have 82 in January?

No, it's not unusual at all to have temps to 82ºF (28ºC). Some areas in San Diego County were much warmer this day. In inland San Diego it's not too unusual to have temps more than 90ºF (32ºC). The hottest I ever remember in January was almost 100ºF (38ºC) back in 2003 or 2004 (that was in inland San Diego).

The city of La Mesa which is just to my east, holds the all-time highest December temperature for the U.S. It was 107ºF (41.7ºC) back in 1939.

Interesting. I thought that San Diego is cooler in the winter.

It's pretty difficult to explain the micro-climates here. Downtown is usually much cooler than inland San Diego. However, there's the Santa Winds or (SOSA) sort of a Santa Ana which can raise the temps much higher than normal. Last winter was very, very warm by comparison to this January.

Actually, the weather in winter can be sometimes hotter than summer (in downtown) because in winter the air is super dry (dry air heats up and cools down faster). In summer the weather is humid, so the temperature doesn't rise as fast and as warm.

The average high in downtown San Diego for January is 66ºF (19ºC), but many times it can be much warmer. Inland areas of San Diego average about 70ºF (21ºC).

This vine is common here and is in full bloom at this time !
Temperatures have started moving up here as well, it was 27c yesterday, today seems equally warm.

I bet it loves the heat there. It's a common vine here in San Diego...although when not in bloom it's not very showy.

You have much hotter temps there during your spring there (than here in inland San Diego). Your spring temps are as hot as the deserts here in Southern California.

We don't really start getting really hot, humid until the monsoonal flow starts from: July - Sept. (sometimes it starts in June).

January 2014 we averaged 66f...and that was at HAYX. Inland, add 2-3 degrees. Spooky really. I think it was our warmest January ever. This year is going to be interesting if we get "warm" rains over the colder Alaskan storms. It seems the weatherman is always saying a storm we should have had "went to the north" instead. No drought in Oregon or Washington!

Yes, it's been above average for much of California. All I know is that we need rain...I prefer it comes from the south then that means we'll get more rain here in San Diego (and it's warmer rain).
