Now I could have done with some fresh basil last night! Had to buy it from the supermarket!

Wonderful.

Thanks Lulu and Klahanie.
I added the basil to my tomato sauce and tossed the sauce into some freshly cooked penne.

Love fresh basil but can't seem to grow it successfully. I added mine to a whizzed up yogurt, pea and garlic sauce, over pasta and feta. Yum!

I love fresh basil as well... but as Lulu, I can't seem to grow it either. Maybe the climate is too humid(?) where we live. I even have a hard time to grow cilantro which I love.
I know most people hate it for it's pungent flavor but I love little bit of it in all my salsas.

Klahanie, I planted some seed end of winter, beginning of spring and only and only obtained one plant which is still surviving (5months later). I then decided to purchase some seedling which has survived bearing in mind that I live almost on the beach. I must say my basil has handled the tough conditions i.e. salty sea spray, wind and humidity, pretty well. It must be a hardy African basil plant. lol

I live almost on the beach also (in Canada) and have probably the same conditions sixpence48. Also I think there is never hot enough weather in the summer for basil and cilantro to thrive.I do not have a greenhouse.

Thanks, for the information Klahanie, it's a pity our seasons are not in sync. If you do not mind, I look forward to sharing some good and bad things about seaside gardening.

Our seaside location is not in subtropical climate Sixpence48. It is in much cooler climate on Vancouver Island in Canada. Therefore our plantings are very different from yours.
We spend our winters in Mexico where the climate is subtropical but we rent a place here (for a few months) and I do not plant.

Thanks for the info Klahanie.
