This one and two others live on the west side of the pergola beside the kniphofia. The flowers grow from a central clump on the top of the stem and the leaves are smooth edged. It is nick named the stinking hellebore because it reputedly has a bad smell if the leaves are crushed.

This grows like a weed in my garden. Fingers crossed I've got rid of it but time will tell.

These have been in for about 4 years Meanie and don't seem to be spreading yet. It just shows what a difference the soil can make in how plants survive and spread. Plantaholic no matter what the weather does the plants seem to ignore it and grow anyway. Considering the area where they are has been rock hard with frost I'm surprised anything has survived. I have not dug up the roots but presume they must be well under the ground below the frost.
