Lovely!

I do like tulips.

I love them them, too! I put all the Tulip bulbs, (the ones you see in the photo above), that hadn't rotted away, into a plastic Strawberry planter I have on my balcony. I'm not really expecting any flowers from them this year as the majority of the bulbs from last year split into smaller ones after flowering. I saved them & planted them again last October. I hope to be able to control a little more their growing conditions. It's not a good idea to keep them growing on with Daffodils & they prefer the opposite conditions to Daffs.

That's something I'll bear in mind, Balconey.
Thanks for the heads-up!

Unless you can give them very hot dry free draining places to grow it's practically a waste of time trying to keep them from one year to the next.

I don't know why I bother! I know they are unlikely top flower again but I just can't bear to throw plants away if I can possibly keep them alive. If they do flower I'll certainly be posting a photo!

What a pity. I'd imagined they were like daffs, flowering year after year, creating new bulbs. :-(
I read a couple of years ago that someone had produced an extremely dark blue or purple tulip that was as near to black as anyone was ever likely to get.
Having said that, look at what they can do at the genetic level!

great colours B!

Thank you, B!

There are species that will grow & flower year after year in our gardens but they are the small rockery tulips, Kuffmania or something, I can't remember the name correctly now.

There has been a Parrot Tulip called, if my memory serves me, 'Black Prince' around for very many years & there are some Darwin Tulips that are also nearly black. Again these have been around for many years.

Try doing a search in your browser for 'Black Tulip' & see what you come up with.

Worth a gander, I reckon.

I've decided, Balconey, that I've got to have Queen of the night & bright red, yellow & orange ones to set them off.
Now where's that ever-expanding wish list of mine...Lol.

I did a search for "Black Tulips" & most of the results turned up a book by Alexander Dumas called "The Black Rose"!

Your selection sounds fine & I'd like to see the results in 13 months time!

I just Goyed tulips & trawled the members' photos, Balconey.
2nd or 3rd page & Bingo!
