hmmm nice..a bare root tree!

These roots are very destructive. Never plant anything like that close to house. The tree is pretty when it is small. It likes to have it's roots exposed like this.

That's incredible! It it a Ficus species?

This is one of the many very large Ficus macrophylla (Australian Banyan) trees (below link) in Balboa Park. The roots are larger than most people:

I have no idea what it is Delonix. I assume some ficus family. There is a talk that this tree will have to go.
There are many of them around thriving happily.

The leaves don't look like Ficus. The trunk doesn't look like any characteristics of ficus, either.

Bik:

You're correct. It does look like a Eucalyptus tree.

Here in California, we grow more species of Eucalyptus than anywhere in the world. Many species have naturalized since the 1840's.

I agree with bot of you it is a eucalyptus.

Klahanie:

Typically, Eucalyptus trees will surface root like this in very shallow soils.

I think that the soil is poor here Delonix1. We have several eucalyptus trees on our street (and around village) and all have exposed roots. Maybe not as the one in this picture.
A Gringo bought the building behind it ...to open his gallery and he wants the tree to go. It will be enormous task.

Yes, poor, shallow soil will definitely cause this to happen.

Hopefully it's not removed!

Cypress? Seems to have weepy foliage. Cypress live for centuries in Mexico.
