End-of-Summer Downunder - Brassocattleya (Bc) Maikai hybrid

This was a pass-along Orchid and I've just found an ID for it.

Very delicate looking Orchid, beautiful.

gorgeous ~ are these like pleiones?

8 Feb, 2013

beautiful orchid, not sure if it is terrestrial like plione.

thought you might like that bampy!

Thanks Bik, Sue, Sticki and Bampy.

Sticki, Bampy is correct. These hybrids are not terrestrial. They're ephiphytes but that's pretty much all I know about them other than this little one is a no-fuss easy-to-grow Orchid.

thanks bernieh, they are really beautiful

You're very welcome. This was a pass-along plant and it's only the second time it's bloomed for me. I'm really pleased with it.

I'm not surprised! It looks really good in with the ferns too.

Seems to love this spot, Sticki.

I've got a couple of other little pass-along Orchids next to it and I can't wait to see what flowers they produce.

The old lady who gave them to me didn't have a clue about any IDs. I had to wait until this one bloomed to try and find out what it was.

What a lovely surprise this must have been! Hope the others are as good!

8 Feb, 2013

It was a really lovely surprise. I wasn't expecting much as I had never seen her Orchids in bloom.

I'm really hoping the other three will be just as lovely. I'm not sure how long I'll have to wait for them to bloom though. They're all still rather small.

No hint of a bud or petal?

8 Feb, 2013

Nothing yet, Sticki. Hopefully if our wet season ever arrives, I might see something.

8 Feb, 2013

You could have some of our rain to help them along!

8 Feb, 2013

Wish you could share! Up here in the north the wet season has been almost a non-event so far this year. It's been a very different story further south, with widespread flooding and torrential downpours about a week or so ago.

Here in the north we had about two days of torrential rain, and a few days of showers. That's not the typical wet season for us.

Hmmmmm bit like our summer, almost non existent! The only good bit was the Olympics!

8 Feb, 2013

Yes I've heard that your summer was a bit dismal. The Olympics, on the other hand, was just fabulous. I watched a lot of it and enjoyed it greatly.

8 Feb, 2013

Oh that's good, I'm really glad you enjoyed them. I didn't have a ticket even though since I was about 8 I have wanted to go! My oldest son went to watch.

9 Feb, 2013

What a shame you missed out. I've never been on an Olympic Games either. I'd have to travel quite a way to see one here, as they're usually held further south in other states. Not sure when the next one is coming downunder.

9 Feb, 2013

That's the frustrating thing, they will never come nearer again for me. Tickets were expensive and not so easy to get. It was interesting and really good how everyone seemed to love having the Olympics, even people who normally don't like sport were watching it all!

9 Feb, 2013

It does seem to bring out the interest of all, doesn't it?

9 Feb, 2013

Amazingly yes! As you may have heard people even chatted on the tubes and that doesn't normally happen. I rather think we Brits were a bit skeptical until the opening ceremony and then it took off!

9 Feb, 2013

Having travelled on the London tubes myself, I can say that I was met with rather troubled looks when I kept on saying 'Hi!'. I got some rather strange reactions. So it's great to hear that changed for the better, for at least a while.

sadly it isnt happening any more but one lady talked to me the other day ~ she was from lincolnshire so maybe that doesnt count!!!

9 Feb, 2013

Lol, Sticki, of course it counts!

9 Feb, 2013

:-)))
We both laughed about it! I knew she wasn't a Londoner! But I'm half and half, my dad came from London.

9 Feb, 2013

Great sense of humour. You'd fit in here very well. Aussies are well known for having a laugh at their own expense.

9 Feb, 2013

Oh I can definitely do that!
